It’s Been a Wild and Crazy Summer
Don’t worry, I still love beer. And my favorite stool at DRY 85.
Let’s cut through the crap. To say this place has been woefully neglected would be an understatement. In fact, it’s been a rather weird summer.
Even though I’m not a huge fan of this particular season, there were quite a few highs. Work, though crazy, has been great. (I even started a marketing podcast with a coworker.) Mr. Pint and I moved to a new apartment and finally have a patio again. But there were also some lows, which included a bit of an identity crisis about Naptown Pint. And this very first world problem led to me taking an unexpected step back from here (and my column) for… well, a long time.
Thankfully, the absence only made my withered, black, cold heart grow fonder of the Maryland beer community I’ve been lucky enough to call my second home. And I have a bunch of stories and interviews that have been gathering dust on the shelf for the past few months that are woefully overdue for sharing.
But for now, I’m going to ease back into this by sharing a few highlights from past couple of weeks – because I’ve been on some adventures.
After missing a few meetings, the Annapolis Homebrew Club reminded me of how awesome this area is.
I went to the Oyster Recovery Partnership facility at Horn Laboratory of the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Sciences, along with Chef Keith Long of Harvest Wood Grill and Tap, for an upcoming piece for The Capital. Really incredible work being done there.
…which was then followed by a behind-the-scenes tour at RAR Brewing in Cambridge. Also for an upcoming article in The Capital.
I hosted a Maryland beer and cheese pairing for the winners of a silent auction.
While there, we scoped out the famous Rothko room, which was thought-provoking and introspective.
We also caught the Karel Appel: A Gesture of Color exhibit.
…and the second to last day of the William Merritt Chase exhibit.
We concluded our D.C. art adventure with pizza and beer at Pizzeria Paradiso in Dupont Circle.
Mr. Pint and I went to the second last Wednesday of Annapolis’ Dinner Under the Stars on West Street.
Last, but not least, I took Mr. Pint on his first trip to Vida Taco Bar. It was delicious.
…and that’s just been within the past month.
Anyway, there you have it. What’s coming up next? Well, the new year of Junior League of Annapolis gearing up. Plus, I’m speaking on a beer policy panel for DC Beer Week on September 26 and hosting a beer tasting at South River Golf Club in early October.
The thing I’m most looking forward to, however, is our upcoming trip with this guy and gal in mid-October to Europe – especially since Mr. Pint has never been overseas before, and we’ll be in Paris for his birthday.
For now, it’s just good to be back.
